biography
Sooji Lim obtained a Bachelor's degree in Art History from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Since 2013, she has steadily built her career in Los Angeles, working at numerous galleries, museums, and institutions. From 2019 to the present, she has been actively freelancing as a floral designer across Los Angeles, Irvine, and San Diego. She specializes in event design, display, and installation coordination, along with event management and administrative roles.
Soo Ji Lim primarily works with oil paints on wood panels or traditional canvases. She focuses on the rich texture and color of oil paints to create sensorial artworks. Her work combines modern elements through a unique perspective, maintaining a timeless feel. By using a palette knife to layer paint, and incorporating wooden curves and gold leaf onto the images, she adds depth to traditional paintings, reconstructing them from a new viewpoint. For Soo Ji Lim, wood serves as a major source of inspiration, symbolizing the flow of time and the essence of life. Therefore, she often incorporates natural elements into her installations to subtly bridge the gap between canvas and nature. By doing so, she emphasizes the coexistence between humans and nature, connecting communities into a unified whole. As time passes, she continues to marvel at the beauty of nature, and she hopes that through her works, viewers will feel a deep sense of connection and inspiration from the coexistence with nature.
