Using video, performance, sculpture, and photography “Now Fermenting,” an exhibition by Haneul Park and Caroline Yoo, examines the act of fermentation in relation to current day society, technology, and identity.

Park’s technology-driven exploration into a generation’s portrayal of their identity oftentimes uses a collage of found and manipulated footage to create a surreal representation of the serious. On the other hand, Yoo delves into a performative investigation of what it is to be a multi-cultural body in the current day political arena of the United States of America, questioning the embedded societal norms of colonization.

Each stir a complex concoction of ingredients of their individual “fermentation”, a shared act of fluidity among human beings. Formulated with an endless list of controllable and uncontrollable variables, from the way we were nurtured to the locations, virtual and physical, we tread, from the people we cross paths with and those we keep walking past, we are forever in flux. Pause and consider the challenges against the expected narrative that is the 21st century.

We are all fermenting.
